The church of Christ is that church which:

  • Was founded on and built by Jesus Christ (Matthew 16:18)
  • Began in Jerusalem, according to prophecy (Acts 2:1-4, Isaiah 2:2-3)
  • Was established on the day of Pentecost, 50 days after Jesus died on the cross (Acts 2:1)
  • The Lord adds new disciples to, following their obedience to the gospel (Acts 2:47)
  • Is the one body of Jesus Christ (Eph. 4:4)
  • Bears a name for the body of Christ that is used in the New Testament, the “church of Christ” being one of several scriptural names (Romans 16:16)
  • Is organized according to the New Testament pattern, with Jesus Christ its head and individual Christians members of the body (Romans 12:5)
  • Is synonymous with the “kingdom of Christ” (Colossians 1:13)
  • Was prophesied to suffer at the hands of false teachers (Acts 20:29-30, II Thessalonians 2:3-4)

Our purpose and plea is for all to obey God in everything that He has commanded us to do in word and deed (Colossians 3:17). We direct men and women to the New Testament, to God's original plan for His people, which over the centuries has been obscured and altered by the teachings and doctrines of men. If people in New Testament times, by obeying the Gospel, could become Christians without joining a denomination, so can we, and we must. We desire to be just what the people were in the days of the apostles: Christians only, no more, no less, no other.

The Bible teaches that Jesus built one church, and one church only, and that all Christians are to be united in that one body believing the same things (John 17:20-21), (I Corinthians 1:10).The Lord established His eternal church c. AD 33 in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 1-2). The Purcellville congregation of the Lord’s church was established in December 1998 by a few related families. The church grew and a few years later, purchased land and constructed its present facility, which was first opened for worship services in October 2009. From its origin, the congregation has been focused on creating a strong, faithful church in Western Loudoun County that takes the gospel to this area and beyond, and helps those in need.  The church is involved in numerous activities to meet those goals..
